I work with a lot of pretty spectacular couples! I think I’m going to have to go out on a limb here and say that I’m actually the luckiest wedding photographer in the world because my clients are THE BEST! I love chatting with them after the wedding too about how the rest of their evening went, how they felt the day unfolded, and hearing (or laughing) about the highlights. One thing that comes up pretty consistently with couples afterwards is how happy they are that they hired a Videographer for the big day because the day went by sooo quickly and they feel like it was all such a blur. The other statement I hear often is, “I really wish we would have hired a Videographer for the wedding.” Same theme, right?! The truth is that the day does go by very quickly…. even for me, and I’m actually at work there! There really is nothing quite like a video to capture people’s facial expression, the intonation of their voices, the vows, the roars of laughter or sarcasm as the speeches head into uncharted territory. There is also that living movement in video. Not to sound morbid, or be a downer, but I’ve heard stories of a loved one passing within the months after a wedding and the bride and groom being so grateful that they have this footage of their loved one. I can attest too that after my father’s passing a little over a year ago now one of the first things I wanted to do was to watch my wedding video to see his movements, his joy, and listen to his voice.
“Should I hire a videographer for my wedding?” This is the question! I know a lot of people have a difficult time with this decision, but I really do believe that it’s worth the investment. At the end of your wedding day, the cake will disappear, the flowers will wilt, the tux will go back to the rental shop, and the dress will be dry-cleaned and packaged up. All you have left to help you reflect through the moments and stories of this day that you planned for so long and invested so much into is your photos and/or video. This is such a special time in your life, so in my mind it only makes sense to capture it in the fullest way you can.
I would love to hear your thoughts on this. Did you have a Photographer and a Videographer at your wedding? Do you have any regrets about having or not having one?
If you are still considering a Videographer, I want to insert a shameless plug here for my beautifully talented sister, Leena. Leena spearheaded Splash Films a few years back now after photographing weddings with me for almost a decade. She’s so talented at creating beautiful video keepsakes for the couples that she works with. Here’s a peek at Lisa & Eric’s wedding that we worked on together this past October. You can see more of her emotionally captivating video samples at her website www.splashfilms.ca.
We were also so very blessed to work with so many of Norfolk County’s best wedding professionals at Lisa & Eric’s wedding including Jordan from Black Creek Music. Amy Martin from Forty-Two Eighty Events, Bobbi-Jo from Unveiled Port Dover, Amy & Anita from Wedding Hair and Makeup by Amy and Anita, and Burning Kiln Winery… and of course Leena from Splash Films, and myself ? (Andrea) Splash Photography I hope I haven’t missed anyone!
