As I gear up for the 2018 wedding season, one of the first items on my “To Do” list is to make sure I have a great support system set up, so that I can offer the best to my clients! Specifically, I’m referring to my Second Shooters for the year. In the past, I’ve been blessed to have some pretty amazing people photograph with me at weddings. I can still count on many of these talented individuals to work with me in 2018, but as their businesses have grown, it’s inevitable that they will become less available. This is a bitter-sweet moment for me. I’m so happy to see others succeed at doing what they’re passionate about, but I will certainly miss having their support at weddings I’m photographing.
However, this is also an exciting time! I love the opportunity this creates to work with, and grow with new people! I’m planning to hire 1-2 part time Second Shooters for 2018 weddings. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to break into the wedding photography industry. When you’re starting out in photography, it can be difficult to get great hand’s on experience, and Second shooting is an amazing opportunity to learn the ins and outs of wedding photography without the full responsibility of being the primary shooter!
This would also be a perfect opportunity for a seasoned professional, or semi-professional. Perhaps you’re looking for a way to still be out there photographing events, but in a less stressful role, all while making a little extra cash! Sometimes being the Lead Photographer at a wedding can be a heavy weight to bear, so working as a Second Shooter may sound like a breathe of fresh air to you. Whatever your reasons may be, this could be a fun opportunity for you!
If any of this sounds interesting, and you live near Haldimand/Norfolk/Oxford county, Hamilton/Burlington, Brantford, or even Niagara area… this could be a great opportunity for you!
•Shooting anywhere from 2-12 weddings a year as my Second Shooter.
•Wedding day coverage will range from 6-12 hours. (You will not be required to edit the photos. I will copy your raw files and edit them myself.)
•Shooting with me (Andrea) throughout the day and occasionally on your own (guys getting ready, cocktail hour, etc).
•Carrying some bags and equipment as needed.
•Setting up and breaking down reception lighting equipment.
•Other various wedding day tasks as needed.
Here are a few key requirements that I am looking for in potential candidates.
•Must own a professional (or minimum semi-professional) DSLR camera body and lenses.
•Must have some photography experience (wedding experience preferred, but not required).
•Must have car, and driver’s licence to drive yourself to weddings.
•Availability and willingness to commit to 2018 dates in advance. Most of these are Saturday wedding dates.
•Most importantly, you must have a positive and happy attitude! This is KEY for ensuring my clients have the best experience!
And here are a few of the perks you would get from this experience!
•Very competitive hourly rate for shooting time on wedding days.
•Potential to use some client images for your portfolio (this must be cleared with our clients ahead of use).
•Critique and advice throughout the year. After each wedding, I will offer advice and critique on your images in order to help you improve with each wedding.
•A delicious meal on wedding days.
•A chance to pick my brain at weddings with any big o little photography and business related questions you have been pondering.
